Women Are Subordinate…I Don’t Think So

The big news of today is I survived my first college midterm. I guess survive really isn’t the word because I will be really upset with myself if I don’t get an A, but I at least made I through the test. It was not as hard as I thought it would be, although I shouldn’t say that since I don’t know what I got yet. I do, however, feel that I was prepared for the exam. The studying I did on my own, with our group, and my notes really got me through the test. I was worried that focusing on the larger picture would hurt me, but I found that in fact it helped me more than knowing the text. Anyway the test is over, I am still alive, and I got enough sleep…college here I come.

After our test we talked about my least favorite topic in the entire world—Women subordination. I absolutely cannot understand why people think women are inferior to men. I went to an all girl middle school so I got an extra dose of women empowerment and maybe that is why women subordination makes me so angry; I’m not sure I can really put my finger on what it is that ticks me off about it besides I can’t even fathom why men would think they are better. I was unaware until today that Aristotle believed, because he was also a scientist, that men’s sperm contained the baby and that women where just the vessel for procreation. Honestly how wrong can you be? I am mean my goodness. I understand that he did not have all the technology that we had, but are you kidding me? I know that out of the 4 EC kids I am pretty sure I am the only one who really can’t stand people who think women are inferior to men. I really really really can’t stand men who think women are just suppose to make them a sandwich.

And that was pretty much my day. Until tomorrow, Over and Out blog readers.

  1. We taped the US vs Sweden Women's world cup game. We'll keep it to remind you about other very strong and amazing women. Sunday it's USA vs Brazil...you've seen Marta play for FC Gold...now she belongs to Brazil...it's gonna be a nail biter.

  2. Taylor,

Gotta say, I'm not sure whether to be worried or elated by your post. Could mean I've helped raised one of those strong, independent women like my wife and mother; could mean I really gotta watch my back when you get home. Could mean Marshall and especially Boomer are in real peril. Let us know which it is so that we can be prepared. Either way, you'll be interested (at some point) to learn how the Supremes have dealt with sex-based discrimination cases as opposed to race-based discrimination cases. In the arcane world of constitutional law it all boils down to what gets called "the standard of review." Curiously, the standard of review evolved somewhat differently for race-, as opposed to sex-based, discrimination. Query whether the distinction ever had a sound analytical basis or was simply an artifact of a male-dominated court?

In more pressing news, the Giants were stinking it up two nights in a row with the division-rival Padres, but may have righted their ship last night. Your boy Bummy gave up 5 runs, but the bats and field players bailed him out. Nate launched a 2-run homer to get them back into the game. Pablo had a 2-run double in the 8th to tie it up and then save a run in the 9th with a great defensive play. Torres played great defense and also contributed with the bat as did Huff. The bullpen pitched 7+ innings of scoreless ball, and Nate swatted a walk off homer in the bottom of the 14th. Hopefully Zito will have good stuff since we're going tonight and I can't stay up that late two nights in a row.
